You may think, "*MyPrivateParty already has this photo in his gallery " but this is not the same photo!!
Something I've been meaning to do since october of last year was re-submit this piece using a slightly yet, all together different photo.
So, having said that.... taken October 01, 2005:
I went downtown in search of humanity.
Just cruising South Street, soaking in all the imagery, and I hear a flute in the distance. As if the pied piper himself was playing the flute, I went in search for the source of this sound. I'm getting closer, round a corner, and find this man playing songs to a group of teenagers, as one of them sings along to the music, laughing and having a great time.
He said he needed to pay rent, it was due that day. He had a #1 Dad pin on his suit jacket. He tells you to pick a song, any song and he'll play it, and he did. He was one of the funniest people I have seen. Just from the 5 - 10 minutes I stood and watched him, I have half a dozen hillarious stories I can tell. One consists of hip-hop flouting, and booty-shaking.
Me: "What's your name?"
Him: "Felix."
Me: "Nice to meet you Felix."
This was my first attempt ever at street photography....
Hey, I recognize that guy! I met him in front of Fat Tuesday once, he's a great person. I haven't seen him in awhile, though. Is he still busking on South Street?
You know, the thoughts and descriptions behind your photos make them mean so much more. (I would like to take this point in time to say..sorry for all the comments..I have never done a really thorough look through your gallery, so I figured I would). I love this shot His eyes look so..what is it? Desperate maybe?.. Sad? Lonely?
I wonder if he looks back on the days when he played the flute for fun.. just for pure amusement or hobby.. It almost looks like hes remembering those days sadly.
the emotion is incredible; im glad you chose this to be in b&w bc it really adds to the mood and tone of the piece. the clarity and angle makes it personal, as if youre there and can here his music. the story behind it makes me wish i coulda been there. wonderful job!
I just love the sharpness and the contsrast in this pic, but they would be nothing without the indescribable unbalance in this pic, it's some kind o cultural/time collision that I just love Life in the big city I guess!!
i like this one much better. the detail is a lot crisper in mis mustache and his skin looks a lot more real. i also like the addition of the bicyclist in the back. rather than adding clutter, it brings in the feel of the street. nice pic. play on, felix, play on!
Beautiful photo. Wonderful for your first time doing street. I think the stories are as moving as the image.
