They take me places.

This was an idea that came to me suddenly like a lightbulb above my head. Dunno what you guys will think of it, but I like it. These are actually my work boots. One of the most important things I wear.

My first atempt at light painting. PURELY fun. :)

Full view for full enjoyment.

tecnique... divulge!

Hmm, you mean, you would like to know my secrets?! It's pretty simple....

Basically the ingredients are, 1. MOST IMPORTANT, an imagination that functions properly! 2. A camera capable of doing at least a 10 second exposures (just so you have adequate time to work. 3. Tripod and lastly 4. a light source.

I used a mini Maglite for the light source with the reflector head unscrewed so that the lightbulb was completely exposed. Camera on tripod, of course, set the shot up to how I liked it with positioning of boots and such, then turned off all the lights. I had a black sleeve shirt with a black glove on, I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but I like to think it does help keep your hand from being captured. I set the self timer just so I could position myself without worrying about the shutter button, and *click* start painting!

Hope that's what you meant by divulge.

as long as you can controll the shutter speed, and can get it to do about 10 second exposure, then you can do it. ;) you just need a tripod and an imagination :P

Very cool my friend!!!! To me those boots look like soldier boots and it can kinda resemble an anit war piece:( Greate idea though... How did you do the light painting though??

If you read this [link]

that is how I did it. :)

they aren't really army boots, but I can see how you think they are due to the high tops. Technically they are logger botts :D And I can see what you mean about the anti war piece....

Thanks for the insightful comment. :)

Nice job, always fun to experiment and its the best way to learn imo. Great job on the light, and of course the carpet throws it off a bit, but i know this was just an experimental shot and blah blah so nice work. Can't wait to see the final version if you're going to redo it.

hehe pretty cool long exposure-painting with light thingie.. the only thing that could have TOTALLY improved it would be a diff backround such as grass or just reg soil.. not a carpet :P.. but at least it's a carpet cause tile would have messed up. pretty cool man!
I tried with my film camera once and i think that it actually 'burns' the film cause it would give the weirdiest patterns and that not in a good way :dead:

That's an awesome suggestion.....probably be implementing it somehow if and when I re-shoot this....

As far as your film camera goes. You should be able to do it.....As long as you set your f-stop high enough (closed aperture) also, try using some film with like ISO 100, or even ISO 64....very slow emulsions, that way they won't burn, or blow out so easily, and the grain won't be too overpowering..... If you tries it with ISO 400 or more i can see how it would have burned the film.

Wonderfully strange. I have no idea as to what it would mean artistically but it makes me giggle. the laces work really well to tie the swirls of light into the picture. I just like this one it seems whimsical with a hint of "I'll kick your ass"

heh, thanks a lot man. I;m glad you noted the laces, because I actually did put thought into their positioning. I'm glad this was able to bring a smile to you.

They are indeed ass kicking boots! Actually, techincally they're logger boots, but hey, don't loggers kick ass!?
